Potential of President Obama

Did Not Make The Cut (NMTC)
The Potential of President Obama

Some of what I wrote on the promise of President Obama made it into the book, some did not. Following is the DNMTC pieces regarding the his potential.

When you go to school, you learn about a subject in incremental lessons. In order to evaluate your comprehension there are periodic tests. Life seems to be that way as well, whether you are an individual, a corporation or a country. The timing of a test for a corporation or a country ,which lives so much longer than an individual, extends itself over longer period of time. An example of a test for our country is that Saturn/Uranus opposition that repeats itself every 45 years. This is the one that pits conformity against change, the past against the future, hope and change against non-productive repetition… error against realization. We are in the middle of one of those testing periods, so I hope we are all paying attention. We can see very clearly that what we have been doing is not working. That is why we voted in hope and change, to face the future, and to correct our observable errors. It is very hard to fix something if you are not aware that something is wrong. First we get to recognize it, then we get to fix it. And…it can take as long to fix it as it did to break it, it’s a sine-wave cycle with equal upper and lower curves. See the logic?

Our country and what it holds dear are badly in need of repair. The country requested a fix-it president. We voted our best choice and the man was inaugurated. President Obama has done his best to find good people to help him fix things. So far he has only had a couple of months of specific effort. He has already done more than most presidents have done upon entering office. As I recall, there are usually a lot of campaign promises but very little in the way of delivery. That is why the American public gets so jaded in its outlook. We do know the difference between most campaign promises and reality. They do not usually match up.

As I look around, I do not see anyone else who has the vision, the capability and the courage to do the impossible, which is what we are asking. The current pundits talk a good game, or throw stones, or play big rock in the middle of the road, or spread fear and panic, but they offer no real solutions that I have seen. That blue folder with a blank piece of paper or the actions that caused the problem in the first place is definitely not a solution. When you ask them to verbalize or show their better idea, they do a verbal tap dance much as Richard Gere did in the movie “Chicago.” Go past the entertainment value. The skit was very informative regarding human manipulation as well as entertaining. Politicians keep tap dancing verbally hoping we won’t notice they are not performing in reality. This time, campaign promises are being worked on as this book is being written. Surprisingly, several promises have already been kept. What a novel political idea—a political promise kept. And the pundits and fact-checking organizations are keeping tab. You will never satisfy all of the people all of the time but there appears to be an honest attempt. Right or wrong is in the eye of the beholder, personal perspective.

At this point it is important to reinforce one point. President Obama has repeatedly stated that he intends to lead by looking forward. Let us not distract the man by making him look back while he walks forward. There will be time to right the wrongs. Right now his eye must be on the present as he moves us toward our future.
